Accessible Climate Strategies
A Climate Justice Imperative
People with disabilities (PWDs) are a frontline community in the face of climate change. We are hit harder by storms, extreme temperatures, damaged infrastructure, and power outages. And longer-term trends of migration and climate austerity threaten to leave PWDs behind.

On the other hand, PWDs get disproportionate benefits from climate action. Cheap, reliable, renewable energy helps PWDs with medical equipment like wheelchairs and ventilators. Smart, sustainable urbanism improves independence and quality of life. Equitable disaster readiness and slashing emissions save frontline lives the most. The list goes on.
But despite the climate justice imperative, disability is under addressed in both sustainability and resilience. Despite the disability justice imperative, climate is under addressed in both advocacy and policymaking. We must challenge this status quo – and that’ll take education, collaboration, planning, and action.
That’s where ACS comes in.
